During International Open Data Day on February 23, 2013 I was in Montréal with my friends from Québec Ouvert and Montréal Ouvert and I managed to upload and put Canada on the map on OpenSpending.org with the City of Ottawa’s Budget (Expenditure and Revenue Summary by Category 2013). Now I’m happy to announce that I just uploaded the City of Gatineau’s Budget (Dépenses et Revenus par Rubrique & Dépenses par Catégorie 2012 -2013).
OpenSpending.org is an open platform for government expenditure tracking. It’s a project operated by the Open Knowledge Foundation.
OpenSpending offers an easy system to upload, explore and share public finance data – such as budgets or expenditure databases. While they offer search and visualization features to slice and dice financial data, their API is even more powerful: it enables anyone to easily create their own visualizations and budget apps, without building their own backend.
