In late January I decided to launch a citizen led initiative Gatineau Ouverte which aims to promote open access to civic data of the City of Gatineau. In doing so we strongly believe that access to data and information should increase civic engagement, making services more accessible, and enable innovation.

The primary objective of Gatineau Ouverte is to ensure that the City of Gatineau puts in place a open data policy and portal. This policy must comply with standards adopted by other cities in Canada and elsewhere around the world.

The success of this initiative heavily depends on the commitment and efforts of those favorable to this cause and particularly to a network of volunteers. So if you live in Gatineau, this initiative is about you! Whether you are a developer / programmer, statistician, designer, artist, government employee, contractor or engaged citizen, there is a place for you in this movement that will bring many benefits to our city.
